Amanda Downing Salas
Chef Amanda Downing Salas was born and raised in Elgin, a Northwest suburb of Chicago and developed a passion for "family-style comfort food" at a young age. The oldest of six children, she spent her free time in the kitchen with her siblings and eventually transformed her love of cuisine into an exciting career. After earning her Culinary Management degree from Elgin Community College, and working her way up to executive sous chef at Michael Jordan’s acclaimed one sixtyblue restaurant, Chef Downing Salas
opened River North’s Rockit Bar & Grill as sous chef in 2004, with the restaurant earning multiple accolades including “Best Burger” from Good Morning America and Citysearch. In 2009, when Rockit expanded to a second location in Wrigleyville, Chef Downing Salas was named the executive chef and operating partner of both locations. She then joined the Bistronomic team in 2017 as chef de cuisine. In 2018, Chef Downing Salas joined Smoke Daddy Wrigleyville as executive chef. In her role, she continues to offer the brand’s dedication to neighborhood hospitality and superior restaurant service that both Smoke Daddy and 4 Star Restaurant Group have been known for since 2003.
