KATSUJI TANABE
Chef Katsuji Tanabe is a Mexican and Japanese chef known for his bold fusion of Japanese technique and Mexican flavor. Born in Mexico City, his bicultural heritage shapes a distinctive culinary style that blends precision with vibrant, spice-driven cuisine. He first gained national recognition on Bravo’s Top Chef (Seasons 12 and 14) and has since built a strong television presence, including Top Chef México, Beat Bobby Flay, and Food Network’s Bobby’s Triple Threat (2024). Most recently, he competed on Food Network’s Tournament of Champions Season 7 (2026) and NBC’s Yes, Chef! (2025), showcasing his creativity, intensity, and signature humor.
A pioneer in cross-cultural cuisine, Tanabe launched his career with a groundbreaking kosher Mexican restaurant in Beverly Hills before expanding to major markets across the U.S. He continues to grow his culinary footprint with his original concepts, including Taqueria by Katsuji, Kat-Sushi, High Horse and a collaboration with Chicago’s iconic Bittersweet Pastry Shop.
Beyond the kitchen, Tanabe is a dynamic speaker and advocate for immigration, using his platform to celebrate diversity and the cultural richness it brings to the culinary world.
