Professional Development

The Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation offers a variety of professional development opportunities for secondary foodservice educators.


Industry Certification

o        ServSafe Sanitation Certification: The Illinois Restaurant Association’s ServSafe sanitation classes qualify successful students for both state and local certification.  ServSafe is the most widely accepted food safety program among state, local and federal health departments.  Classes are held at our office every month. o        Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) Certification: The FMP credential distinguishes restaurant and foodservice managers who achieve the high level of knowledge, experience, leadership and professionalism our industry most desires. To earn this designation you must complete a comprehensive exam among other criteria as defined. For more information on the FMP Certification, please visit www.nraef.org


o        Certified Secondary Foodservice Educator Certification (CSFE): The goal of this certification is to establish skill based education standards for instructors teaching secondary restaurant/foodservice programs. This certification does require completing all levels of the NRAEF Summer Institutes. For complete overview of certification requirements and the applications, please visit www.nraef.org


Job Readiness Training  

Illinois high school students with a serious interest in the foodservice and hospitality industry partake in ½ day job skill training. These workshops are presented by industry professionals on topics spanning from resume building, interviewing skills, portfolio development and job search skills.
