Welfare to Work
Share |

Since 1998, the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation has operated a welfare-to-work program in conjunction with the Chicago Hospitality Industry Consortium. The program provides six weeks of job readiness and hands-on food preparation training to qualified TANF recipients recruited from community-based organizations in Chicago. Upon completion of training, participants are placed in full-time foodservice positions with benefits, and provided a worksite mentor through the first 90 days of employment. The two-year project will be completed in January 2001.

The Educational Foundation is currently investigating new projects that provide a supply of entry-level workers to the industry and will have more information in the coming months.

On October 25th, 2001, we will honored our Welfare-to-Work graduates with a special graduation ceremony and reception. Many thanks to Blue Plate Catering for sponsoring this wonderful event!!
