BEVERLY KIM
Chef Beverly Kim is a James Beard Award–winning chef, community leader, and one of the defining voices of modern American dining. As co-owner of Parachute HiFi and Anelya in Chicago, she works alongside her husband, partner, and co-chef Johnny Clark to create restaurants that are both deeply personal and culturally expansive.
She first gained national recognition with Parachute, the couple’s Michelin-starred restaurant, where her Korean American perspective helped reshape the conversation around identity and cuisine in America.
In 2019, Beverly, alongside Johnny Clark, received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes, solidifying her place among the country’s most influential culinary talents. She was also a finalist on Top Chef, where she first introduced a national audience to her thoughtful, boundary-pushing approach to food.
At Anelya, Beverly and Johny explores modern Ukrainian cuisine; the restaurant has been recognized as the first Ukrainian restaurant included in the Michelin Guide, marking a meaningful milestone for representation within the global dining landscape.
In 2024, Beverly and Johnny reimagined Parachute into Parachute HiFi—a listening bar and restaurant that merges high-fidelity sound with bold, expressive cooking.
Beyond the kitchen, Beverly is a dedicated advocate for positive change in hospitality. She founded The Abundance Setting, an initiative supporting working mothers in the culinary industry, and continues to mentor the next generation of leaders shaping a more sustainable future for restaurants.
Currently a contestant on Season 1 of America's Culinary Cup, Beverly is once again stepping onto a national stage, this time not just as a competitor, but as a leading voice in her craft.
Later this year, she and Johnny will open their third restaurant in Evanston, continuing to expand their vision with a concept that reflects both their evolution and their commitment to thoughtful, modern dining.
