ALEX MARAGOS

Alex Maragos anchors the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. newscasts for NBC 5. Since starting at the station as a general assignment reporter in August 2015, Maragos has held several anchoring and reporting roles with WMAQ, covering the biggest stories in his hometown and beyond.  

Maragos is also co-creator and host of The Takeaway with Alex, NBC Chicago’s first weekly podcast and YouTube show. The Takeaway explores complex news topics through approachable conversations, diving deep with journalists, experts and newsmakers on one big story. 

Though he has spent his career covering news, Maragos has a passion for sports. He has covered three Olympic Games -- Beijing 2022, Paris 2024, Milan Cortina 2026 -- giving Chicago daily updates on local Olympians going for gold. Since 2016, he has also served as the start and finish line reporter for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Alex graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he majored in Journalism and Mass Communications and played baseball for four years. He is also a graduate of Loyola Academy in Wilmette. Alex is married and lives in the north suburbs of Chicago.
