Steve McCarty, Executive Chef at Primebar, was raised in Central Illinois, where he was exposed to the farm to table way of life, and gained a true interest in creating flavorful masterpieces. From early on, Steve enjoyed cooking and creating dishes to please his friends and family. As a child, Steve was influenced by traditional American fare with the simplest of ingredients.
Taking advice from his grandfather, Steve wanted to make sure that he would like working in a professional kitchen and applied for a job as the prep cook at Chef Lake Carroll Country Club. Steve didn't just like it; he loved it, and his professional culinary career was launched.
His passion for cooking lead him to pursue formal training at the CHIC Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago. Steve worked two jobs to put himself through culinary school, both as both a butcher and a line cook. He demonstrated exactly what he learned growing up; that if you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything.
After three years as the Executive Chef at Rosebud Prime in downtown Chicago, Restaurants-America came calling and Steve was a perfect fit for the team! Primebar on Wacker Drive is where Steve now spends his days pairing upscale contemporary American cuisine with craft beer, elegant wines and fine spirits.
