Peter McGarrity

Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse Chicago

Peter J. McGarrity was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Downers Grove High School and attended classes at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago. His passion for cooking began as a young boy in the kitchen with his grandmother and parents. He started working in restaurants at the age of 14 and has experience in all positions throughout the back of the house.


Chef Pete has spent much of his career opening and operating new restaurants, hotels and country clubs in Chicago and Las Vegas. His hotel experience includes Executive Sous Chef at the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport and Executive Chef at the Wyndham Drake Oakbrook Hotel. In addition to hotels, Chef Pete has contributed his culinary talent to renowned restaurants including Samba Room in Naperville, Cucina Roma in Westmont, Vincitori in Westmont and Eat at Krave in Las Vegas. Currently he serves as the Executive Chef for Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in Chicago.


He has donated his time to the Holiday Meals on Wheels Celebrity Chef Brunch and cooking demonstrations at Bloomingdale’s Oakbrook. He has also represented Harry Caray’s at several events including the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association Annual Meeting, Chicago Restaurant Week kickoff party at the Chicago Theatre and the Celebrity Chef stage at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show.


He notes the highlight of his career was preparing a feast for the Chicago Blackhawks hours after their 2010 Stanley Cup victory.
