Luis Arturo "Artie" Aucaquizhpi
Gene and Georgetti
Artie came to Chicago in 1992 at the age of 16 from the Republic of Ecuador. By 1994, he found himself as a bus boy at the Golden Ox, but he quickly moved up the ladder.
With a little inspiration and a lot of instruction Artie’s uncle introduced him to what would one day become both his passion and vocation. When he realized that it was more fun making a mess than it was to clean it up he took a position as a line cook at Gene and Georgetti’s.
And as the saying goes, the rest is history. Artie came to the last rung on the ladder 13 years ago when he was named the executive chef at Gene and Georgetti’s, Chicago’s the oldest and most prestigious steakhouse. Chef Artie is a master of classic steakhouse cuisine, as his food knowledge comes from learning the industry from the ground up.
